These young singles aren’t called Fit and Fab for nothing. Confident, cosmopolitan, well-educated and quite possibly gay, they’re either employed in private industry or continuing their tertiary studies with a view to advancing their brilliant career. Though not as high-earning as some Metrotechs, they’re on their way, and are optimistic about their future.
Walk with Me
A toast to me — I just got a new job! I’ll be starting as a genetic counsellor at the Austin Hospital next month. I was working as a research assistant for a neurologist while I did my PhD, but this is a huge step up. My folks back in Guangzhou will be so proud. So will Simon — he was so supportive when I was studying.
Anyway, I’ll be celebrating big-time this weekend: I’m thinking dinner with the gang at Fog in Greville Street first, then on to the GH for a drag show. I’ll also need a whole new work wardrobe — maybe I’ll score a Ted Baker suit or Paul Smith shirt for half price at the DJs stocktake sale? Gotta make a good first impression, after all.
I wonder whether Simon and I should nip to Hong Kong for a quick holiday before I start at the Austin? It’ll be ages before I have any annual leave otherwise. I’m pretty sure Simon’s got some leave accrued (he works at Tourism Victoria). We both go crazy if we don’t manage at least one overseas trip per year.
Tonight, I’ll swim some laps in the pool at our apartment complex, Skype my parents to tell them the news, and have some kind of virtuous quinoa dish for dinner. I like to crank up the healthy living if I know there’s a wild weekend coming!
